Bullet aka's

i call them PROJECTILES, becuse thats to me the most proper term. but me?? i come from academia back in th day, i was a nerd when young, i have 2 college degrees in mathematic and computer science, and i was formerly a software engineer that once amongst other thngs, once wrote my own 2 pass compiler (yes, it was useful, and it worked, LmAO)

i seem 'pedantic' as compared to many other people with my vocabulary and penchant for proper terminology... a lot of people dont mind when someone says "what caliber" when they MEANT to say "what cartridge"

most peole really dont care, as they can grasp what they actually MEANT from context.

to ME, slowly learning the proper terminology for everything is 'JOB ONE' for learning anything new... most people really dont care. I have spent my whole life hearing accusations like:

"oh, dont pay attention t him, he just likes to act smart by using all his dicky big words so he sounds smart"

*shrugs*... i have learned, when i am talking, i can use whatever proper (or improper, lol) terminology i FEEL LIKE using. I have ALSO learned, as long as i can pick up on the context, i dont go around "correcting" anyone... as long as i am not tryig to make SURE something might be important.

i have been around people, that seem to take some "great delight" in always constantly CORRECTING everyone when it REALLY doesnt matter at all?? i try not to BE like that... i save my "limited number of allowable corrections" for times i think they might matter for some reason, LMAO

and at the end of it all? I AM HUMAN... i catch myself calling the whole cartridge the "bullet".

Got an older dude behind me that has his own words for reloading materials... He still buys powder but, he will come by to show his new slugs (that is every type of bullet imaginable) and/or some new pills (same with cartridges) only thing that is close to right are his 22 shells. Took a awhile to get it down so that when we talk I don't get the deer in the headlights look. And trust me with old people its the youngens that are wrong, period... I have heard the "tips" from a professor at college where daughter works - he is English, been here a while but is still lost as times. Give him a few lip looseners and it gets downright funny. Then of course my hillbilly/redneck ways don't help at all.

Around here you might hear a loaded cartridge fefered to as a shell once in a while. "Hand me that box of .22 shells."

I have never heard of bullets called anything but that. Even when you guys called them pills on the old board, it seemed strange to me till I got used to it. The only time I heard the term "tips" was when they were referring to Silver Tips, and that was a few years ago.

yeah, the only  time you might hear a whole cartridge referred to as a bullet is when some politician is talking.

I've heard progectiles, bullets and pills. Slugs to me come out of a smooth bored shotgun.

I grew up thinking i was a "book learner" but want capable of "mechanical stuff". I moved back hom in my 20s to go back to college to get another degree? I had to buy a decent motorcycle fro year round transportation (better than the long bus ride, lol)

eh... I had to start learning how to work on it as money was short, plus? i always was interested... a buddy was a whiz with motorcycles? he had trouble only with the electrical diagrams, it would always be my job to "trace" the electrical, wire by wire, color by color, when he did frame-ups... (electronics had left me with wiring diagrams are a snap)

i started reading the book, and re-reading it, and studying it like i did ANY math or computer book... every time i read thru it? i would read UP TO wherever i "lost it" knowing how "everything" worked...

I eventually made it all the way thru, and realized i now had a "wireframe" (CAD CAM??) picture of the working parts in my head... when i worked on my bike, i laid the parts and every bolt and washer out in a "exploded diagram" sort of arrangement... NO ONE was allowed to get near enough to kick my "exploded diagram" around, lol...

every last WASHER is laid down in such a manner, as its going right back on, with its original orientation, just in case it had a wear pattern it needed.

any broken "connection" be it electrical or hose? gets a "1" with masking tape on the broken connection ends... next one? both get a "2"... etc etc

WELLLLLLLLL. that FIRST tech ref manual i saw, and liked? it was a "clymer". people would show me "chilton", cos it covered ALL the vehicles?

*urp* i didnt like chiltons... your changing something? you have to keep moving back and forth, and too many other similar cars and pictures are in the way... i ended up liking "HYNES" and got one for MY BIKE.

i eventually noticed the CAR i eventually got? it was an in-lin 4 cylinder too, just like my bike was... it had valve tappets i could adjust too... got another HYNES for the car...

ended up with a STRING of cars, and a collection of HAYNES for each and every one, lol.

HAYNES has a lot of "british" in it? without realizig it, i started callign a flashlight a "torch"... the windshield was the "windscreen"... the trunk i called the "boot"... LMAO

i caught myself saying "petrol" instead of gasoline, LMAO

if you wanna work on ALL GM CARS? get a chiltons.. if you wanna b the factory mechanic expert on YOUR vehicle? get a HAYNES...

give me a garage to keep me out the elements? access to a harbor freight for cheap tools and a aut parts store nearby? and enough time to do it? i can do nearly anything... i just dont do anything with "suspension" and i stop short of changing transmissions and engines... but once i copletely diagnosis a PART needs replaced? its getting changed, just a matter of how long it takes, LMAO
